Friday, 17 February 2012

Member for Pittwater Rob Stokes today commended Mona Vale Golf Club on its commitment towards environmental protection.

Rob Stokes' comments follow a visit to inspect the club's new bioremediation water treatment system, which enables wastewater generated on the golf course containing oils, grease and chemicals to be treated before being discharged or recycled.

Financial support for this project has been provided by the NSW Government and is designed to deliver a range of environmental benefits including increased water recycling and a reduction in the risks posed to water quality.

"This is an innovative and environmentally conscious measure designed to provide long-term benefits to our community," Rob Stokes said today.

"Given its unique location adjacent to Mona Vale Beach - the club has taken a proactive approach towards improving its environmental footprint.

"Bioremediation is an increasingly utilised form of wastewater treatment and is ideal for sporting facilities such as golf clubs.

"Besides being a popular community facility - Mona Vale Golf Club also plays a key role in processing stormwater from nearby roads and industrial areas and preventing the release of chemicals into the ocean.

"This project joins a range of other initiatives introduced by the club to help improve the quality of the water flowing through its dams and waterways.

"I'm delighted the NSW Government has been able to assist with this project and I commend Mona Vale Golf Club on its efforts," Rob Stokes concluded.
