NSW Strata Laws Open For Inspection Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 January 2012

Member for Pittwater Rob Stokes today encouraged everyone who owns, lives in or is involved in the management of a strata or community title scheme to have their say on necessary reforms ahead of a state-wide legislative review.

To help drive the NSW Government's planned review of strata and community title laws in 2012, an online consultative project has been launched to enable stakeholders to share their experiences, raise specific issues and suggest possible solutions.

"The general view throughout our community is that the current laws fail to meet the diverse needs of today's owners and residents," Rob Stokes said today.

"The existing laws were designed primarily for small, self-managed blocks of flats – however today's strata and community schemes now include high rises, townhouses, dual occupancies, retirement villages, offices and mixed-use developments.

"With an increasing number of local residents living in strata and community title schemes - this is an important opportunity for our community to have our say on where improvements can be made.

"Given the complexity of the issues surrounding strata and community title schemes the government is keen to hear from as many stakeholders as possible.

"Comments can be made online until 29 February 2012 by visiting www.openforum.com.au/strata or by following the link on the NSW Fair Trading website www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au .

"I encourage everyone with an interest in strata and community title schemes to have their say ahead of this widely anticipated review," Rob Stokes concluded.
