Member for Pittwater Rob Stokes today used the first Parliamentary sitting week of 2012 to highlight the importance of continuing improvements at Mona Vale Hospital. Whilst considerable improvements have either commenced or been completed over the past 12 months, including the restoration of the hospital's façade, maternity unit and dental clinic, replacement of the hospital's outdated oxygen system, internal painting of medical wards, provision of new surgical equipment and planning for the expansion of palliative care services, an enormous amount of work remains. "The reality is the former government handed us a hospital that wasn't up to scratch, Rob Stokes said today. "We're now seeing significant improvements being introduced - but there's a huge amount of work still to do. "It's not just about returning our hospital to an acceptable standard - it's about looking to the future and ensuring the needs of our community can be met. "Mona Vale Hospital presents enormous opportunities for further improvement and it's essential these are explored. "We certainly need a new hospital at Frenchs Forest to help cater for the complex health needs of our growing community – but Mona Vale Hospital will always play a vital role on the northern beaches. "With a committed government, a fantastic workforce and a supportive community – great opportunities exist for continuing improvements. "I'm delighted the attitude towards our local hospital is turning and I'm determined to see this continue," Rob Stokes concluded. |
