Statement Regarding Pittwater Boating Exemption

Many residents have raised with me their concerns about the unfairness of a recent health order providing an exemption for boat owners from outside Pittwater to access their boat for recreation – despite locals being locked down.

I agree.

People haven't been able to see their families for weeks, weren't able to celebrate Christmas, and have been forced to close their businesses.

With so much sacrifice and hardship throughout our community – this was clearly unacceptable and unfair.

Many locals – including me – have asked why Pittwater is being singled out for a longer lockdown.

The NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, has provided the below explanation as to the health rationale behind these decisions – which offers additional clarity to our community:

“I just want to pause to reflect on some of the statistics, which goes into why we are really concerned about the northern part of the northern beaches and why we want that extra period of time to ensure that we do not miss any community transmission or generate further cases in that area.

COVID-19 Update

The Premier, Minister for Health, and Chief Health Officer have outlined arrangements for coming days and obviously we on the northern beaches are most keen to know when we will be able to welcome or visit family and friends from outside of our zones.

At this stage current movement restrictions will be in place until January 9 for the northern zone and January 2 for the southern zone.
